As you move about the city as you normally do, you’re Ready to Give in those moments you’re asked for help on a train, at an establishment, or as you’re walking by someone sitting on the ground.
Here’s how you might pass along the bags to our brothers and sisters.
- Say hello, smile, and ask if they need (socks, feminine products, food).
- If they say yes (and even if they say no), ask their name and share yours.
- Hand them the bag and point out the resource card.
- Offer a salutation and smile.
- If you’re concerned for their immediate safety or health, you could call 3-1-1.
- Ask for the street outreach team and your call will be forwarded to “on the ground homeless outreach” where you’ll be able to provide info about the situation.
- An organization, such as Breaking Ground, will respond to the person in need within an hour.
